Occupy Wall St – The Revolution Is Love

“Love is the felt experience of connection to another being. An economist says ‘more for you is less for me.’ But the lover knows that more of you is more for me too. If you love somebody their happiness is your happiness. Their pain is your pain. Your sense of self expands to include other beings. This shift of consciousness is universal in everybody, 99% and 1%.” ~ Charles Eisenstein

Here is a taste of the upcoming documentary Occupy Love, by Velcro Ripper. It is billed as a film that captures the global (r)evolution of compassion in action.

Points that touched me:

  • There is no other.
  • The 1% are suffering as much as the 99%.
  • We don’t yet have the language for what we sense, for what we want to create, and as a results, making explicit demands takes the heart out of the movement.
  • The revolution is love.

The revolution is love, the vision a felt experience, a longing, a yearning. It is as though I am remembering the future, moment by moment.

Power and Love

Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

One People flash mob – Occupy – YouTube

Check out the One People flash mob – Occupy – YouTube which was held on November 19, 2011 at Occupy San Fransisco & Oakland with the aim of “dancing the world awake”.

What I loved was the t-shirt stating  “we are the 100%”. One percent  of the population may be making the decisions that affect the lives of the 99%.(More likely 1% of the 1% are holding the puppet strings to those in power, but that’s another post). But, as we lift the veils that have cloaked the corridors of power for hundreds of years, we are also being asked to participate in a shift in human consciousness. A shift from demonizing the other to recognizing that we are the other; the other lives in us, and, at this juncture, it is imperative that we embrace the other with love, compassion and tenderness.

The question that arises for me is: Am I loving myself, all of my self, from the power-broker to the victim to lover of life, in this moment?

Time to Hibernate

It seems a bit strange to start a blog, and then announce that I’g going to hibernate for two weeks but there you go. It’s time to rest, recharge and vision. See you at the beginning of February.

Free-Range Social Media

OK, so the blog is up, and I’m feeling nervous. I know I’ve seen comments on other people’s blogs that have been less than encouraging. I also would ask your forgiveness in advance for typos and grammatical errors. This is a blog, not a copy-edited book or thesis. I encourage you to follow the link to Brene Brown’s site that defines range-free social media. In summary:

  • Honour the vulnerability and courage it takes to put up a blog, and remember that there is a living, breathing human being behind it.
  • There is a fine line between inspiration and imitation. Give credit where credit is due. When a mistake is made, rectify it.
  • Treat others as you would like to be treated.
